What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® Treatment is a discreet, minimally invasive treatment that uses a series of custom-made, clear aligners to gradually straighten your teeth, eliminating the need for conventional brackets and wires. This makes them more comfortable than traditional braces.

Invisalign® aligners can be easily removed for eating and drinking, which means that unlike conventional braces there are no dietary restrictions.

What’s the Procedure?

Generally, Invisalign® Treatment takes an average of 6-12 months and a series of review appointments are required every 6-8 weeks to monitor progress and provide you with your next set of clear aligners.

  1. Consultation and Treatment Planning: At this appointment your dentist s will discuss the treatment options available to you, answer any questions you may have and determine if Invisalign® Treatment is right for you. Upper & lower impressions and photographs may be taken at this appointment.
  2. Digital Simulation: Invisalign® return a 3D digital treatment simulation (ClinCheck) which shows how your teeth move throughout your treatment and give you the predicted treatment outcome. When you are happy with the outcome, this will be used to create your aligners
  3. Fitting your Aligners: When your aligners are ready, we will arrange an appointment for you to have them fitted. You will be provided with the first sets of aligners (usually 3-4). You will need to wear these for 20-22 hours a day, removing only for eating, drinking anything other than water and brushing. Each set of aligners is worn for approximately 2 weeks.
  4. Regular Reviews: During your Invisalign® Treatment you will need regular review appointments (approximately every 4-6 weeks) to monitor progress and if provide you with your next set of aligners.
  5. Retainers: Once your Invisalign® Treatment has finished you will need to wear a retainer to keep your teeth straight and prevent them from moving back. Retainers are similar to aligners as they are clear and removable. Initially these should be worn all of the time, after a few months this can be reduced to nightly.
